If you move to Amsterdam or Diemen from another place in the Netherlands, you have a choice of schools. To see which schools are near you, you can of course explore your new neighbourhood, but you can also take a look at the school guide of the City of Amsterdam, or at our overview prepared for you. Choose a school on the map, or use the filters. If you click on a school, you will see the website.

Does your child attend regular education? You can switch to a new regular primary school of your choice if the school has room and the school can meet your child's educational needs.

Does your child attend special primary education (sbo)? If your child has a declaration of admissibility (TLV) for another region, this must be converted to one that is valid in our region, which is done by us (samenwerkingsverband).

Does your child already have a declaration of admissibility for special education (so)? It is valid nationwide.

This is what I would like to know

If your child's declaration of admissibility (toelaatbaarheidsverklaring, TLV) is still valid, it must be converted into a declaration of admissibility (TLV) for special primary education (sbo) in Amsterdam. Either the school where your child comes from, or you can register your child with us, asking us to convert your child's declaration of admissibility  (TLV) into a valid copy. In the meantime, you can find out more about the schools for special primary education (sbo). Register your child at the school of your choice. If this school has room, it can register your child as soon as it has received the converted declaration of admissibility (TLV) and the pupil file from you (or from us - with your permission).

If your child has a valid declaration of admissibility (toelaatbaarheidsverklaring, TLV) for special education, you can register your child directly at the special education school of your choice. A declaration of admissibility (TLV) for special education is valid throughout the country. If the school of your choice has a place, it can register  your child after receiving pupils file  and the declaration of admissibility (TLV) for special education.

The school where your child is enrolled registers your child with het samenwerkingsverband where the school is located. So if your child is still enrolled at the school in the region where you lived, this school will apply to its samenwerkingsverband for a (different) declaration of admissibility (TLV). If they issue a declaration of admissibility for special education, you can immediately use it in Amsterdam: it is valid nationwide. Is it a declaration of admissibility for special primary education? Our samenwerkingsverband must convert the declaration of admissibility (TLV) into a copy that is valid here.
